With the destruction of Kleinskool U.C.C Primary School, the staff and learners were relocated to the present building on 1 April 1985.
The school was officially named Sapphire Primary on 1 January 1987 with a learner population of 1 100 and 39 educators. The school has been the "sapphire" of the communities of Booysen Park, Kleinskool, Missionvale, Kwanoxolo,Nceba Faku Village and Jacksonville in Port Elizabeth (South Africa).
A range of extra mural activities is provided at the school to ensure that the child develops as a whole. The school has an active governing body under the leadership of Mrs. Margaret Calvert.
The current principal, Mr. B. Damons officially assumed duty on 1 February 2000.
The school was also identified by the Department of Education to be a pilot school in the launch of the OBE programme for grade 7.
After initial decline of learner numbers due to the lack of transport, numbers have grown to 1041 in 2004.
